About Victoria Falls
The Victoria Falls is one of the world’s most impressive waterfalls. Set on the wild Zambezi River, it creates the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe; Livingstone being the town on the Zambian side and Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side. Both countries share magnificent views of the falling water known as the Victoria Falls.
Victoria Falls is not just about seeing The Victoria Falls. Keep these points in mind when making your decision about how long to stay.
Culture: Visit a local village and witness daily life, enjoy a meal in the private home of a local family which will contribute directly to the family coffers, eat out at a restaurant offering local dishes, take a stroll through the Victoria Falls Hotel to enjoy the etchings, paintings and 100 year+ Edwardian style of the oldest hotel in Victoria Falls. The bustling Dambwe and Maramba markets in Livingstone are an excellent place to buy some local chitenge fabric, locally crafted curio or buy local produce.
Activities: It’s a top adventure destination. Adrenaline activities galore. Visit our activities page for more info on individual activities or go straight on in and book your activities online.
Wildlife. It’s a wildlife destination where elephants can literally roam the streets. If you haven’t had time to go on safari , do it here – either with a day trip to Chobe or a game drive in the Zambezi National Park
The Zambezi River alone makes for many attractions:
River cruises from budget to luxury, breakfast, lunch or dinner cruises – even a private cruise if you prefer. They are the quintessential Victoria Falls activity and a perfect moment to create and remember.
Fishing for the renown Tigerfish can be arranged in either Zimbabwe or Zambia with a private guide
Birding. Over 400 species occur in the area. We arrange bird cruises or drives.
History: Victoria Falls has an interesting history which can be enjoyed by way of a guided Bridge Tour which explains more about the construction and the why it came about, a guided (or not) tour of the David Livingstone museum in Livingstone. A Tour of the Victoria Falls is a great way to learn of the formation of the Falls, its cultural history and geography. An in depth talk on David Livingstone, his life and adventures, can be arranged on request with a private specialist guide.
Some stats:
Considered to be the world’s widest waterfalls, the Victoria Falls measures an impressive 1708 metres in width and at peek flow more than a million litres of water a minute flow over the face of the falls forming a mist that that swirls into the sky and creates a cloud and a rain forest.
Which side to view the Victoria Falls from?
These spectacular waterfalls can be easily visited and viewed from both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides. The views are very different on each side so if you have time, definitely take the time to visit both. You can walk between towns as long as you have your passport, a credit card to enter the rain forest on each side and of course a hat and some sunscreen.
It can get pretty hot in Victoria Falls so the most comfortable way to see both sides of the Falls is to arrange a tour. Not only will you have a nice comfortable air-conditioned vehicle but you will have a top notch guide who can educate you about the history and stats of Victoria Falls who will also take care of paperwork at the border posts.
